Many homes in our area have underused attic space with no flooring and a poor standard of insulation. While we have very much earned our reputation as loft insulation installers and insulation removal specialists in East Sussex, Fox Repointing and Building Maintenance can also help you to optimise a loft’s floorspace so that homeowners benefit from easier access, added storage space and a warmer, more energy-efficient property that costs less to run.
Based in Polegate, we undertake loft space boarding projects in the nearby Eastbourne area, in Hastings and Seaford, and in locations across the county.
If you want to make better use of your loft space but don’t really know where to start, call Fox Repointing and Building Maintenance now. We will arrange a convenient time to come out and see you, survey your attic, and provide you with a detailed explanation of what we can do to help you.
You can read the testimonials of previous customers who have used us for loft space boarding services in the past, and who are delighted with the results.
There is more to boarding a loft than putting down plywood and hoping for it to be “good enough”. The success of a loft space boarding project is largely dependent on the insulation beneath the boards. Current industry standards insist that lofts have minimum insulation depths of 270mm. Loft joists will rarely be deeper than this and boarding would end up compressing the insulation.
This would affect its integrity and its performance.
Fox Repointing and Building Maintenance can assist you by fully insulating the loft and then boarding it, or we can prepare the loft for boarding if you would prefer to insulate it yourself and then come back to board it later. With either of these approaches, we will conduct a full inspection to make sure the space is suitable for boarding, and that there are no signs of dampness.
In our experience, the two most suitable materials for loft space boarding are chipboard or plywood. The systems we use have a tongue-and-groove edge design so that our installers can fit them into your attic space securely with no visible gaps. OSB chipboard is the best industry-rated material for flooring in loft conversions, whereas a treated P5 chipboard is the better choice in loft spaces where dampness and moisture might be obvious concerns.
Chipboard and plywood sheets come cut to size so that our installers can put them through the loft hatch without any further cutting needed. The tongue-and-groove system ensures a stable flooring surface which, when laid over your choice of insulation, also creates an efficient barrier against heat loss.
If you require our loft space boarding service in Eastbourne, Hastings, Seaford or any location in the East Sussex area, the installers at Fox Repointing and Building Maintenance are here to help. By having a loft boarded, it becomes a more functional storage space that has a safe floor to walk on without any concerns over gaps, tripping hazards or losing heat through the roof.
In addition to having a loft that is purposefully designed and built around your needs, our work could go on to add market resale value to your property.
